Lumen Maintenance:

Lumen maintenance refers to the ability of LED street lights to maintain a certain percentage of their initial light output over a specified period. It is commonly expressed as “Lx,” where “L” represents the percentage of initial light output, and “x” indicates the number of hours of operation. For example, L70 indicates that the LED will maintain at least 70% of its initial light output after a certain number of hours of use.

Importance of LM-80 and Lumen Maintenance:

  1. Reliability: LM-80 testing provides manufacturers, designers, and users with valuable information about the expected degradation of light output over time. This data ensures that lighting systems continue to perform as intended throughout their operational life.
  2. Design Considerations: Designers and engineers can use LM-80 data to select LED solutions with known performance characteristics, helping them make informed decisions about system design and configuration.
  3. Warranty and Claims: Lumen maintenance data is often used to establish warranties for LED products. Manufacturers can confidently offer warranties based on the expected lumen maintenance over a specified period.
